WHO ARE WE?
SCDC is a collective of people who love to dance and who value community. Though our dance backgrounds and level of experience vary, we share a common love of the free-form, improvisational dancing that happens in Southern California at such places as Dance Home in Santa Monica, Cirquanalia, in Los Angeles, Dance Jam in San Diego, and Dance Away in Santa Barbara.

Inspired by the events of our sister organizations, DNE and NCDC, our events provide a healthful, smoke-, drug- and alcohol-free atmosphere for creativity, growth, rejuvenation and self-expression. SCDC welcomes everyone. Our aim is to create a safe, nonjudgmental atmosphere of openness, integrity, trust and cooperation.

WHERE?
Camp Max Straus is located on 112 acres of near wilderness on the outskirts of Glendale. Set in a rustic canyon of oak trees and sage, the camp has hiking trails, a large grassy field, two large fire circles for drumming and storytelling, and three large and beautiful dance spaces with wooden floors for playshops and dance jams.

The camp sleeps 180 in heated 12- and 16-person cabins. Cabins will be designated coed, for women only, for men only and for families. Tent spaces are available for those who prefer to sleep under the stars.

WHAT TO BRING?
Warm bedding, blankets or camping gear, flashlight, warm, comfortable clothes for dancing and stretching in, hiking boots, shower sandals, towels, water bottle. You might also bring percussion or other acoustic musical instruments, stretch mat for yoga classes, ear plugs and sleep mask, costumes and glow sticks for our Saturday night Tribal Trance Dance (body paints will be provided!) and decorative objects and pillows to help beautify our dance spaces.

MEALS
Delicious, primarily organic vegetarian meals (with vegan and wheat-free options) will be provided from Thursday dinner through Sunday lunch. If you have allergies or special food needs, please let us know no later than October 15. We regret that we may be unable to accommodate every special food request.

CLASSES
We are pleased to offer a wide variety of playshops taught by skilled professionals. Check our web site for current class and teacher listings: www.scdance.org. Please note that classes are scheduled concurrently and offered only once.

CHILDREN
Structured child care will be available during class periods ONLY for children aged two to twelve. Parents, please bring toys and games to share labeled with your name. So that we can plan the best possible program, please register all children by October 15.
